Filmed in the Victoria Miro Gallery in Hoxton, Victoria Beckham’s SS21 collection is, as per the designer’s own words, all about freedom. Like for all of us, lockdown took its toll and the collection was a spontaneous reaction to this.
We already knew that VB was not one to wear track pants, leggings or anything with elastic waist band, but turned instead to denim and T-shirts when staying at home during lockdown. They make an apparition in the collection, flared and high-waisted, alongside other beautiful 70’s inspired silhouettes. Elongated trousers with fitted sheer shirts, long dresses with cut outs, a gorgeous white three-piece suit that has Bianca Jagger written all over… Everything is fluid, seems comfortable yet impeccably cut. All garments are definitely wearable, including the super long trousers with split hem. Colours are from a natural palette, exploring all shades of butter, cream, camel, banana, with touches of lime green. The statement necklaces with a large chain and ring in brushed gold complete beautifully the silhouettes.
“Limitations can be liberating. Working remotely, for this collection we reacted spontaneously. We were instinctive. We asked ourselves what has changed? Who do we want to be? What will we desire?
This collection is about freedom – to explore, to dress up, to be yourself. It is rooted in our true DNA, our language; strong tailoring, sharp colour, modernity. And dressing women.
Eclectic is a word I keep returning to this season – it really encapsulates the woman, her attitude, her nonchalance. There are different silhouettes, different facets of dressing – coats, fluid dresses, denim and elongated trousers. Hemlines are longer, fits are easier, there’s a fluidity and ease. Really, it’s about a true wardrobe. This collection is rooted in reality – in life, and living. But it’s a dream inspired by reality.”
