London Fashion Week AW20 – Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood’s presentation and exhibition, entitled True Punk, was a manifesto to defend human rights and free speech, and more specifically to raise awareness about WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange’s situation.
Assange is currently in Belmarsh prison awaiting trial and possible extradition, and the AW20 presentation at the Serpentine with guests including Courtney Love, Bianca Jagger, Jamie Winstone, Mary Charteris or Sadie Frost, was also meant to promote the public demonstration organised by the designer the week after in front of Australia House in London.
The collection itself was as always a powerful and eclectic combination of textures, patterns from tartans to florals, and block colours (the electric blue is to die for). Via the very detailed editors notes, Vivienne Westwood strongly highlighted how sustainability is at the core of this collection, with a focus on reduction, zero waste pattern cutting systems, sustainable and innovative fabric choices, recycled buttons etc.
