Sao Paulo Fashion Week – SPFW N44 Highlights

The 44th edition of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, the biggest fashion event in Latin America and 5th most important worldwide, took place last week.
The SS2018 season opened with A La Garçonne show in São Paulo’s famous Municipal Theatre, where Alexandre Herchcovitch presented his vision on streetwear.

Amongst the highlights, Osklen offered a stunning collection inspired by the Brazilian artist Tarsila Amaral, starting with all white, quiet looks, slowly turning into strong statements with colour blocks or powerful prints.

Lilly Sarti’s collection, as the designer defined it herself, is city with a suntan glow. With gorgeous warm colours ranging from pale yellow to bright red and luxurious fabrics such as silk, jacquard or crepe, the silhouettes are strong yet relaxed.

It was only the third fashion week for Lab, a brand created by siblings Emicida and Evandro Fióti, but they are quickly becoming a sensation, and this year’s show didn’t disappoint. The streetwear brand showed true diversity on the runway, with all sizes models, and offered live music that added to the global energy. The collection itself is gorgeous, with prints and colours to die for.

Ronaldo Fraga’s show took place in the middle of the Ibirapuera Park, guests sitting on beach chairs under the warm winter sun. Unlike the last shows that were inspired by tragic world news such as refugees or transphobia, the designer turned this time to a much lighter universe, the beach! And a retro beach from the 20’s on top of that. A fantastic beachwear collection, all in blush pink and black, presented as well by all sorts of models, young, old, thin, fat, men, women, etc. “The idea is to celebrate the beach, but even more as a space of diversity and exhibition of all body types in Brazil”.

Another highlight was Samuel Cirnansk’s collection, mixing jeanswear and eveningwear. Stunning!

One of the last shows of this season was all about menswear, with Reserva. The collection was inspired by travellers and backpackers. Somewhat poetic, with a twist of I-put-on-whatever-was-in-my-backpack. Refreshing.
