Le Coq Sportif releases Arthur Ashe Authentic Tennis Shoes

When it all started in 1882, for the French brand Le Coq Sportif,  with the opening of a little hosiery store in Romilly-sur-Seine, nobody would have bet on it. Emile Camuset, the man who opened that store, loved sport with a fierce passion, which is surely a key to Le Coq Sportif success. 130 years later, the brand has become one of the world’s most prestigious sportswear brands. Renowed for its clothing, footwear and sporting equipment, Le Coq Sportif is the best ally for those who, as its creator, love sports and fashion.

In 1975, the story began between Arthur Ashe and Le Coq Sportif. The American tennis player Arthur Ashe became the first black man to win the Wimbledon singles’championship and its was Le Coq Sportif who outfitted the talented tennisman. After Arhur Ashe beat fellow American Jimmy Connor, the tennisman was considered as a hero from a large part of the American population. Throughout his life he used his sporting profile to campaign on a variety of issues. He protested against apartheid in South Africa and US treatment of refugees arriving in the country from Haiti. Ashe was obviously open-minded and generous sportsman who perfectly matched the French brand’s values.
