What’s New In Denim
JEANS: Biker. Innovator. Icon.
Perhaps the most G-Star of jeans is the G-Star Elwood – the first pair constructed to the 3D Denim method. Unlike traditional patternmaking, which approaches the garment as a flat object, 3D Denim employs techniques that sculpt the jeans around the wearer.
Created in 1996 by Head Designer Pierre Morisset, the concept came to him at a rest stop in the South of France. A passing motorcyclist was riding in his jeans, which had formed to his riding position through long time exposure to the elements. Intrigued by how the jeans had clad around the motorcyclist’s legs, Morisset sought to recreate the 3D shape of those wet, solidified jeans, giving birth to both 3D Denim and the G-Star Elwood jeans.
In anticipation of next year’s 20-year anniversary of the G-Star Elwood’s invention, this season G-Star introduces an updated version of this icon: the 5620 3D Zip Elwood. Inspired by the pants used in GP motorcycle racing circa 1960’s (the era of Mike Hailwood), with zippers at the knee to house removable protection, the 5620 3D Zip Elwood brings this detail to its right knee. Available in both men’s and women’s versions, the black jeans are resin-coated, baked and then heavily washed-down – a treatment that pays tribute to Morisset’s original inspiration.

DUNGAREES: Designed To Flatter
Offered in a selection of fits, G-Star has flattering dungarees for every woman. Based on key styles from the G-Star jeans range, from the classic 5-pocket 3301 to the nonchalant Type-C boyfriend jeans, the dungarees span the high-waisted and super skinny to the looser and more relaxed. Each pair has the complimenting details the brand’s jeans have become known for – from the side seams that are slightly moved forward, or the specific size and placement of back pockets.
This season G-Star outerwear has got the technical and the timeless covered, introducing a range of heavy-quality Melton wool coats alongside performance parkas.
In a variety of styles including Pea, Duffle, and Trench coats, the woollen range modernises military classics with attention to fit and fabrication. Worn by sailors in the US and British navy as early as the 1700s, the Pea coat has become a modern style icon thanks to its rare balance of tough and sophisticated. G-Star’s Wool Pea Coat cuts the icon in 1000-gram Melton wool merging weight with wearability.
The parkas show G-Star’s expertise in functionality. From the innovative fabrics – lightweight nylons to coated cotton twills – to the considered constructions – internal silhouette adjustors, padded interiors, heavy duty trims, and adjustable hood constructions – attention is present in every detail.
A robust backpack with a zip-off waist pack, the Originals Detachable Backpack is the must-have accessory this season.
Made from Cordura, a lightweight fabric using high tenacity fibre technologies for exceptional durability, the backpack’s strength is as slick as its exterior. With heavy gauge zippers, internal 15-inch laptop compartment, comfort-padded back and shoulder straps, the piece comes in a range of colours taken from RAW Prouvé – the collaborative furniture line between G-Star, Vitra, and the family of iconic French designer Jean Prouvé.
The G-Star RAW Autumn/Winter ’15 Collection is in-store and online as of September 2015.
G-Star RAW first hit the UAE market in 2005 and now has boutique stores in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Mirdif City Centre, and Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai – as well as Yas Mall and Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. .
