Wooyoungmi menswear Spring/Summer 2014

Wooyoungmi is a personal favorite when it comes to menswear. After all she understands very well the subtlety that it takes to create something new and original without looking desperately eccentric and her collections are usually huge hits because they appeal to “normal” gentlemen and are wearable without too much efforts.
For Spring/Summer 2014, the designer followed though with the work on prints and geometry that she had already showcased for Spring/Summer 2014. Colors are, oddly enough less bold than the palette she used for her Fall/Winter collection. Structure and stripes, which are two strong elements of the Wooyougmi DNA are presents and we also get to witness the designer’s take on the “denim over denim” trend.
The Spring/Summer collection for Wooyoungmi also give off a very sportive feeling through the many sneakers and shapes we get to see. The designer seems to have chosen many inspirations within the trends of the moment : reinterpreted military print, snakeskin, color-blocking which all make for a rather coherent collection. Some people whispered that for this season, the previous work of Phillip Lim may also have been a source of inspiration as the color palettes were similar.
Yet the casting was totally different as Yannick Abrath opened the show, followed by runway staples Janis Ancens, Robert Laby, Ben Stift, Rutger Schoone, Jester White, Elliot Vulliod, Alexander Ferrario and the soulful-eyed Guerrino Santulliana.
